St. Thomas the Apostle N.S. has been involved in the Green School Programme for the last 8 years. The Green School Programme is an environmental education programme offering schools a well-defined controllable way to take environmental issues from the curriculum and apply them to the day-to-day running of their school.
We have a very active Green School Committee – each class is represented by the children and they work very hard to both maintain the flags we have been awarded and work toward achieving the next flag.
Green Flag awards are given to schools once the essential elements of the programme are completed. This is done in conjunction with the Environmental Department of Tipperary County Council. To date, St. Thomas the Apostle N.S. have been awarded 4 Flags for the following elements: Waste & Recycling, Water, Energy and Travel. Currently our Green School Committee are working on the theme of Bio-Diversity.
